Job Overview:

This position covers detailed knowledge in operating systems, operational tools, Networks, data base management software and other similar systems support software. Focuses primarily on information and document requirements for data, workflow, logical process, hardware and operating system environment, interfaces with other systems, internal and external checks and controls, and outputs.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Document findings of study and prepare recommendations for implementation of new systems, procedures, or organizational changes. Report findings to principal engineer, staff and management as required.
  • Must possess subject matter expert knowledge of constructing, refining, and maintaining information models to meet business requirement.
  • With only general direction and guidance conduct special assignments of a highly complex and technical nature and develop alternative strategies which have an important effect on planning or meeting objectives.
  • Provide subject matter expert technical advice and serve as a technical training resource to management and staff.
  • Exercise judgment within broadly defined practices and policies in selection methods, techniques, and evaluation criterion for obtaining results.
  • Plan and coordinate the day-to-day activities of a group of engineers or programmers which have the responsibility for a major technical area/system.
  • Act as project lead for major projects requiring the use of project management and interpersonal skills to coordinate project interdependencies.
  • Apply subject matter expert technical expertise in decision making and in the resolution of problems which are highly complex and technical in nature.
  • Possess subject matter expert engineering skills required for building and testing the Operating Systems environment and for break/fix solution for escalated issues.
  • Must exemplify excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Leads task force groups to plan for critical incident or service problem resolution.
  • Plans and leads the support of process components including tools, utilities and procedures based on requests from technical users, end users and third party vendors.
  • Drives the implementation of applications and/or processes within the scope of standard procedures and frameworks.
  • Builds on-going relationships with senior business management and associates.
  • Maintains an enterprise-level view of business requirements, identifying cross-functional synergies and interdependencies as appropriate.
  • Exercises independent judgment of business decisions in selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criterion for obtaining results.
  • Exemplifies all standards of excellence within the Principal Engineer role.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Job Requirements


  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, or related field preferred



  • 8+ years relevant work experience preferred
  • Preferred work experience in project planning and management skills, encompassing scope of work, time estimation, and resource assignment



  • Has expertise in a variety of languages, tools and utilities, must be a true expert in at least one language (Knowledge Base) and can teach classes in the subject
  • Must have Subject Matter Depth & Breadth in at least one other language, having used it extensively and can mentor others
  • Has solid knowledge of at least one DBMS, having used it extensively and can mentor others
  • Must have strong computer skills within stated area of engineering expertise and must be proficient in use of Microsoft Office applications
  • Possesses expert knowledge of program design, coding, testing and documentation



  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong customer focus and interpersonal skills, with the demonstrated ability to work in geographically dispersed teams
  • Apply logical thought process and ability to learn new systems, concepts and procedures
  • Ability to manage competing priorities
  • Demonstrate basic analytical and conceptual skills used to define technical needs and solve technical problems
