Senior Program Manager - Business Continuity
Job Overview:
The purpose of this position is to lead a team to implement and maintain the Enterprise Crisis Management and Business Continuity (CM/BC) programs. The primary focus for this role is administering a program that identifies critical processes, associated risk to those processes, and develops preparedness strategies and plans to mitigate the risk resulting in operational disruptions in coordination with key business unit and functional leaders (i.e., Cyber, IT, Security, EHS, FQSA, Insurance, etc.). Other key activities include coordinating efforts to facilitate the decision-making process and response to major events or disasters affecting our associates, operations, supply chain and customers. This position reports to the Director Business Continuity and will communicate across all levels of the organization, including significant exposure to senior management. The Department of Business Continuity resides within the Corporate Finance and Accounting Function.
Job Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
Program and Outreach
- Manages a team(s) to further develop, maintain and coordinate UNFI’s crisis management and business continuity programs that enables UNFI to continue operations, protect assets and mitigate losses in the event of disruption.
- Apply program management and project management expertise to set program objectives, design, build, and operationalize programs that advance business resilience through partnership and collaboration with stakeholders across the enterprise.
- Ensures that the programs are effective and independently reviewed through internal and third-party audits at planned intervals.
- Understand and ensure program compliance with business continuity rules, regulations, and best practices. Provide business continuity information to auditors, regulators, and other third parties who have questions about our Business Continuity and Crisis Management programs.
Planning and Project Support
- Ensure the full implementation of the business continuity lifecycle, facilitate risk assessment and business impact analysis initiatives. Ensures that all CM/BC strategies and playbooks are developed and updated to reflect the current operating environment. Ensures teams and playbooks are exercised in alignment with program requirements.
- Ensure risks and mitigations strategies are well researched and understood by key stakeholders and risk owners.
- Develop and maintain planning resources and templates, provide written reports and summaries to a broad set of stakeholders.
- Develop and conduct crisis management and business continuity education and training for stakeholder groups.
- Manage tools and technology that will assist in the development and storage of the various plans related to business continuity.
Crisis and Disaster Response
- Provides support to the Corporate Crisis Management team and other incident response teams as needed based on the incident.
- Develop and maintain contact with local/regional emergency response groups and other industry bodies as appropriate.
- Performs other relevant job duties as required.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or the equivalent in education and work experience.
- Professional Designation - Certified Business Continuity Professional (or equivalent certification) preferred.
- 5+ years’ professional experience in business continuity, crisis management, emergency preparedness or similar fields involving continuity/crisis planning, response and recovery.
- 5+ years of supervisory or management experience.
- Business Continuity experience in multiple supply chain points, including but not limited to manufacturing, distribution centers, transportation, and other supporting corporate support functions.
- Experience managing cross-functional programs and/or complex enterprise projects.
- Experience leading and mentoring staff or team, interacting successfully with senior management and staff across multiple departments.
- Strong project management skills, with effectiveness in breaking down work, developing tasks, managing teams and projects to achieve desired outcomes, and proactively identifying risks and impediments.
- Knowledge of business continuity concepts and understanding of the intersection of related disciplines of risk management, disaster recovery, crisis management and incident response.
- Familiarity with business continuity and related industry standards (ISO 22301, NFPA 1600, NIST, ASIS, etc.).
- Strong organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills. Self-motivation and ability to work independently.
- Ability to work in an environment where changing priorities are the norm and flexibility is a must; demonstrate skills in managing multiple tasks.
- Ability to effectively communicate program goals, values, obstacles, and priorities across the business and leadership levels to gain the right level of participation and input from key areas.
- High tolerance for ambiguity and a capability for self-directed work.
- Ability to learn, maintain and support business continuity tools and technology solutions.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams) with an ability to perform data analysis and produce professional presentations and reports.

Compensation:
UNFI anticipates paying the above-referenced pay rate (or within the above-referenced pay range) for this position. Actual Pay, where applicable, will depend on a number of factors, including, but not limited to, education, experience, training, and any requirements under applicable collective bargaining agreements. Sales Positions Only: For sales positions that are commission-based, the above range is an estimate of total potential commission-based compensation during an associate’s first year, but UNFI offers an introductory period minimum of $1,000 per week. After the introductory period, as a 100% commission-based role, there is no set salary. UNFI’s commission plans are uncapped and average earnings vary depending on territory and sales achieved, among other factors.
