Purpose: 

The Director, Corporate Marketing is a key leader responsible for shaping and activating UNFI’s brand to support enterprise strategy and deliver measurable business results. Leading a team of creative and strategic marketing professionals and vendors, this leader ensures UNFI’s brand positioning is clear, compelling, and consistently applied across all touchpoints.

This role works hand-in-hand with Corporate Communications to drive an integrated, campaign-based approach that delivers a steady flow of coordinated marketing and communications programs. Together, Marketing and Communications build and execute campaigns that highlight UNFI’s narrative (Better Food. Better Future.) and reach key audiences (customers, suppliers, associates, partners, and shareholders), balancing major company milestones with ongoing and timely content that supports the business.

The Director will oversee brand governance, creative development, campaign development, digital platforms (including UNFI.com), and required cross-functional projects to deliver results that drive UNFI’s narrative and its strategy.

Job Responsibilities: 

  • Brand Leadership & Strategy
    • Define and evolve UNFI’s brand positioning to reflect company strategy and industry leadership.
    • Develop and maintain brand guidelines, visual identity, asset library, and messaging frameworks to ensure consistency across all teams and channels.
  •   Integrated Marketing Execution
    • Co-lead the development and management of a single, integrated editorial and campaign calendar with Corporate Communications, aligned to business priorities and audience needs.
    • Lead joint planning sessions to set focus areas and manage resources effectively.
    • Direct the execution of company-wide marketing programs, including strategic events, digital experiences (e.g., UNFI.com), branded content, and owned/paid campaign strategies that drive business growth and expansion
  • Creative & Content Strategy
    • Guide a team of designers, writers, and agency partners in bringing strategy to life through engaging creative assets.
    • Establish and manage shared briefing processes and cross-team creative reviews to deliver clear, cohesive, and impactful storytelling.
    • Oversee the creation of templates, playbooks / guides, and assets that scale content efficiently across channels.

  • Team & Talent Development
    •  Build, coach, and inspire a high-performing team of marketing and creative professionals.
    • Foster a collaborative, accountable, and innovative team culture, grounded in a growth mindset.
    • Ensure resources align with business priorities and support ongoing growth and development.

  • Marketing Operations & Governance
    • Build and maintain governance models and routines that enable efficient, repeatable delivery of integrated campaigns in partnership with Corporate Communications.
    • Develop and use shared measurement frameworks to track campaign performance, brand impact, and stakeholder feedback.
    • Skilled at focusing teams on high-impact work that drives business results. Allocates resources effectively and scales lower-priority tasks through templates or self-service solutions.
    • Champion continuous improvement using data-driven decision-making and lean marketing practices.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Job Requirements: 

Education/ Certifications:

  •  Bachelor’s degree in marketing or related field. MBA is preferred.

Experience: 

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in marketing leadership roles, including 2+ years managing people and cross-functional teams
  • Experience in brand strategy, creative development, digital marketing, and integrated campaigns required.

Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities:

  •  Experience leading people and building inclusive, high-performing cultures where associates are inspired to reach their full potential.
  • Strategic thinker with a record of driving measurable marketing impact.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with strong executive presence.
  • Skilled collaborator able to influence and align stakeholders across a complex organization.
  • Operationally strong, with experience managing budgets, processes, and external partners.
  • Proficiency with marketing technology, digital platforms, and creative tools (PowerPoint, Excel, Adobe preferred).
  • Good judgment is required for this position as there may be times when direct supervision may not be immediately available.

Work Environment:

Remote Role: 

  • This position is classified as remote where the associate will perform remote work from their primary residence. Remote associates are welcome to work from the office but are not required to do so. While remote associates are not required to work from an office on a regular basis, they may be required to come to the office or other UNFI locations for necessary business reasons or if directed to do so by their manager.

 Travel: 

  • This position may require the associate to travel to company offices, distribution centers, or other locations for specific meetings or other business reasons.

Compensation:

UNFI anticipates paying the above-referenced pay rate (or within the above-referenced pay range) for this position. Actual Pay, where applicable, will depend on a number of factors, including, but not limited to, education, experience, training, and any requirements under applicable collective bargaining agreements. Sales Positions Only: For sales positions that are commission-based, the above range is an estimate of total potential commission-based compensation during an associate’s first year, but UNFI offers an introductory period minimum of $680 per week. After the introductory period, as a 100% commission-based role, there is no set salary. UNFI’s commission plans are uncapped and average earnings vary depending on territory and sales achieved, among other factors.
