Job Overview:

The Director, Ops Finance is a key strategic partner to the business leaders of Natural. This role leads the performance management of the Natural Margin P&L, partnering closely with business leadership to drive sustainable growth and improve profitability. This role reports to the VP of Ops Finance and will manage two managers and an SFA, overseeing a team of approximately 11 total finance professionals.

This leader will be responsible for developing a deep understanding of the operating and financial fundamentals of the Natural businesses, delivering insights to influence decision-making, and ensuring accurate communication of financial results to both business stakeholders and Corporate FP&A. The ideal candidate combines financial expertise with strong business acumen, communication skills, and a passion for developing talent.

Job Responsibilities:

Core Responsibilities

·       Lead the Natural Margin finance teams, driving performance, development, and engagement of a team of 11

·       Serve as the strategic finance partner to business leaders across the Natural organization, supporting growth initiatives, margin improvement, and operational accountability

·       Develop deep understanding of the business models, margin drivers, and competitive dynamics in Natural categories

·       Lead monthly financial reviews, forecast updates, and variance analysis, ensuring accuracy, insight, and actionability

·       Manage the annual budgeting and long-range planning process for assigned areas, coordinating with Corporate FP&A and business stakeholders

·       Provide clear, consistent communication of financial performance to business partners and senior finance leadership

·       Translate financial analysis into business recommendations, focusing on cost/margin improvement, revenue growth, and risk mitigation

·       Support and challenge the business on strategic investments, pricing decisions, promotions, and sourcing strategies

·       Continuously improve reporting, planning tools, and financial processes to increase efficiency and insight

·       Collaborate across functions including Sales, Merchandising, Procurement, Accounting, and Corporate FP&A

·       Ensure appropriate financial controls, forecasting discipline, and documentation are in place across the team

Additional Responsibilities

·       Lead, mentor, and develop three direct-reporting managers and broader finance staff, fostering a high-performing, collaborative team culture

·       Provide clear priorities, coaching, and development plans to support career progression and build organizational capabilities

·       Promote continuous learning and knowledge sharing across the Natural finance team

·       Ensures all employees are well informed of accounting policies, procedures, and regulations. Facilitates consistency at all levels of accounting and finance operations.

·       Evaluates and recommends improvement for databases and accounting software systems

·       Delivers and presents regular financial updates for the team, cross functional partners, and Corporate Finance

·       Reviews analysis and interprets financial data and recommends opportunities to improve financial performance

·       Partners on developing planning tools and related technology

·       Works with department leaders to evaluate risks and opportunities and make decisions (including financial implications)

·       Manages the day-to-day activities of team establishing priorities, processes, and timelines.

·       Provides structure and monitors the implementation of financial controls.

Job Requirements:

Education/ Certifications:

·       Bachelor’s degree required.  Degree in accounting, finance, or related field preferred. CPA or MBA preferred.

Experience:

·       10+ years’ experience in Finance required.

·       Financial Planning & Analysis experience required. Possess ability to analyze, interpret, and report financial data.

Knowledge/Skills/ Abilities

·       Fortune 500 experience strongly preferred

·       Strong command of the financials and business

·       Strong people leader who empowers their team; hires, retains and grows talent

·       Ability to solve problems using analytical frameworks to streamline the process

·       Self-starter who works well within under situations (well-defined to unstructured); proactively identifies improvement areas

·       Possesses excellent communication skills, both verbal and written with all levels of management

·       Ability to interact at all levels in the organization from Executives to staff

·       Excellent PC and related application skills

·       Ability to handle confidential information in a mature manner required

·       Good judgment is required for this position as there may be times when direct supervision may not be immediately available.

Work Environment:

Remote Role:

·       This position is classified as remote where the associate will perform remote work from their primary residence. Remote associates are welcome to work from the office but are not required to do so. While remote associates are not required to work from an office on a regular basis, they may be required to come to the office or other UNFI locations for necessary business reasons or if directed to do so by their manager.

Actual Pay, where applicable, will depend on a number of factors, including, but not limited to, education, experience, training, and any requirements under applicable collective bargaining agreements. Sales Positions Only: For sales positions that are commission-based, the above range is an estimate of total potential commission-based compensation during an associate’s first year, but UNFI offers an introductory period minimum of $680 per week. After the introductory period, as a 100% commission-based role, there is no set salary. UNFI’s commission plans are uncapped and average earnings vary depending on territory and sales achieved, among other factors.
