As a Receiving Quality Control Technician at Woodstock Farms (WSF), you will play a key role in upholding our commitment to food safety and quality. In this position, you will be responsible for conducting thorough inspections of incoming products and performing food safety and quality checks to ensure compliance with UNFI’s standards and policies.

You will report directly to the Director of FSQA and support the execution of food safety and quality assurance tasks with efficiency and accuracy. This role is essential in fostering a strong culture of safety and continuous improvement across our operations.

Job Responsibilities:

Core Responsibilities

Receiving Inspection & Quality Checks

  • Inspect incoming materials, products, and components against purchase orders, specifications, and quality standards.
  • Verify product identification, quantity, condition, and labeling compliance.
  • Conduct PORC reviews (Pest, Odor, Repair, Cleanliness) on all received shipments.
  • Pull samples from each case for testing/inspection; coordinate rapid testing (e.g., E. coli, Listeria) within 24 hours if needed.
  • Manage food trade samples and ensure documentation is maintained.
  • Support quarterly product reviews for ongoing compliance with company standards.

Documentation & Recordkeeping

  • Complete inspection reports, checklists, and nonconformance reports.
  • Maintain accurate data entry into systems for product acceptance or rejection.
  • File and organize quality documentation for audits and traceability.
  • Document and track new product pre-approvals before items enter distribution.

Communication & Collaboration

  • Notify supervisors and purchasing teams of any damaged, incomplete, or incorrect shipments.
  • Work with suppliers on corrective actions for nonconforming materials.
  • Collaborate with warehouse and operations teams to ensure smooth flow of accepted goods.
  • Partner with authorized personnel to release product once inspection and testing requirements are met.

Compliance & Safety

  • Follow company policies, food safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist in internal and external audits as needed.
  • Identify and report potential quality or safety hazards.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

Education/ Certifications:

·       High school diploma or equivalent required; additional quality-related experience preferred

·       HAACP certified

Experience:

·       1-3 years’ experience in receiving, quality inspection, or warehouse operations; food distribution/manufacturing experience highly desired

Knowledge/Skills/ Abilities

·       Basic knowledge of quality control principles, measurement tools, food safety, and inspection techniques.

·       Familiarity with microbiological testing processes is a plus.

·       Proficient in reading purchase orders, packing slips, and product specifications.

·       Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and data accuracy.

·       Knowledgeable in Microsoft Office

·       Good judgment is required for this position as there may be times when direct supervision may not be immediately available.

Work Environment:

Onsite Role:

·       This position requires the associate to perform all duties at one of our Woodstock Farms production facility.

Physical Environment/Demands:

Warehouse Roles:

·       Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and to stand, walk, bend, stoop, twist, and turn frequently.  

·       Exposed to temperatures ranging from -20 degrees below zero to 35 degrees Fahrenheit in Perishable Operation and 37 degrees to 90 degrees Fahrenheit in Grocery Operation.

·       Ability to do repetitious arm, wrist, and hand movements required for maintenance and service procedures.  

·       Must be able to work with hands and arms overhead, and to work in or under the equipment.  

·       Requires manual dexterity, overall coordination, and good balance to work both at ground level and in high places to perform job duties.  Ability to operate work-related equipment.

·       Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

·       Woodstock Farms: Ability to work in an environment containing tree nuts, peanuts, soy, wheat, sesame, milk and different spices like pepper, chili, etc.

Actual Pay, where applicable, will depend on a number of factors, including, but not limited to, education, experience, training, and any requirements under applicable collective bargaining agreements. Sales Positions Only: For sales positions that are commission-based, the above range is an estimate of total potential commission-based compensation during an associate’s first year, but UNFI offers an introductory period minimum of $680 per week. After the introductory period, as a 100% commission-based role, there is no set salary. UNFI’s commission plans are uncapped and average earnings vary depending on territory and sales achieved, among other factors.
