Responsible for providing the leadership, management, and guidance necessary to ensure that the Fleet Shop and Maintenance and/or sanitation is operating safely and efficiently.  Maintains fleet and maintenance records, inventory reports and files and answers and directs telephone calls and questions.  Ensures that the location is complying and properly executing all Standard Operating Procedures and Standard Repair Practices.  Will be required to maintain the equipment, minimizing down time, and keeping fleet and warehouse operations running efficiently.  Ensures that Company, Federal, State and Local guidelines and regulations regarding sanitation and pest control are met daily.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for optimizing labor and ensuring the proper mix of straight time, O/T and Outside Repair.
  • Responsible for optimizing shift patterns to match supply of qualified tech hours versus the availability of equipment.
  • Responsible for work analysis, vehicle planning and scheduling, scheduling, and assigning work to technicians, productivity tracking and optimization, shift and shop meetings, and Repair Order review and approval.
  • Responsible for implementing cost control measures related to fleet maintenance budget and location P&L statement to meet financial objectives.
  • Responsible for the optimization of net maintenance cost per unit.
  • Work with vendor sourcing group to identify potential and preferred vendors for specific facilities and vehicle maintenance services.
  • Responsible for ensuring accuracy of third-party invoices and the quality of worked outsourced to vendors.
  • Responsible for Purchase Order approval and invoice reconciliation, and fuel reconciliation.
  • Responsible for maximizing Warrant recovery on all qualified assets.
  • Responsible for the execution of Asset Management initiatives at the shop level.
  • Manage vehicle in-service/out-service process.
  • Responsible for Parts Inventory management, policies, and procedures.
  • Lead breakdown root cause analysis process implement corrective actions Maintain control/visibility over shop floor activities to ensure proper root cause diagnosis by technicians and that the yield on all parts/components is optimized.
  • Responsible for all Mandatory Compliance items at the Shop Level as identified on the Quality Review inspection list.
  • Develop and ensure implementation of Quality Assurance Audit Corrective Action plans and Continuous Improvement programs.
  • Accountable for maintenance of all relevant documentation required to meet and/or exceed local. State, federal, as well as customer requirements.
  • Responsible for ensuring a clean, safe workplace and providing guidance for all safety efforts and initiatives.
  • Comply with Safety and EPA regulations and requirements

Facility Maintenance:

  • Creates monitors, generates and closes planned maintenance and job tasks using the computerized maintenance program.
  • Facilitates inspections as necessary.
  • Verifies work orders to ensure that they are properly prepared and verify correct inventory procedures were followed.  Order parts, supplies or tools to accomplish all jobs.

Sanitation:

  • Implements and maintains control programs to ensure that facility is free of insects and rodents.
  • Supervises and trains sanitation associates.
  • Facilitates inspections as necessary.
  • Order parts, supplies or tools to accomplish all jobs.
  • Monitors and maintains department accounts to ensure quarterly budgets are adhered to.
  • Coordinates with contracted landscape company for maintenance of grounds.
  • Administers recycling program.
  • Recommends new and replacement equipment to support department goals.
  • Performs other relevant job duties as required.
 

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Education/ Certifications: (Required/Preferred-list requirement is required or preferred)

  • High School Degree required, College or trade school degree desirable, work experience in area of refrigeration and electrical maintenance required.  Thorough knowledge of ammonia refrigeration systems required.

Experience:

  • 5 – 7 years or more experience in a maintenance operations environment required.  Minimum 2 years prior experience as a Heavy Truck/Trailer Fleet Mechanic, including refrigerated units and maintenance and DOT rules and regulations.

Knowledge:

  • Basic computer skills required and personal computer experience, with word processing and spreadsheet applications preferred.
  • Working knowledge of the computerized maintenance program to document and schedule all maintenance tasks and inventories.

Skills/ Abilities:

  • Prosses good leadership skills and the ability to supervise the work of others.  Must be able to motivate and work with and through others to achieve desired results.
  • Possess good communication skills, both verbal and written.  Deal effectively with a wide variety of people both in person and over the telephone.
  • Requires the analytical ability to handle administrative duties and mental alertness to ensure accurate, safe, and thorough completion of work activities.  Possess ability to concentrate and deal with frequent interruptions.

PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT/ DEMANDS:

  • Fleet and Maintenance work is performed in a temperature-controlled office environment.  During part of the workday the incumbent will move about the Distribution Center warehouse floor and potential hazards exist regarding machinery such as forklifts, pallet jacks, mechanized systems, movement of tractors and trailers, etc.

  • Temperatures in the warehouse or back rooms may vary between – 20 degrees to 70 degrees.
  • Noise levels in all areas are within acceptable tolerance ranges for those specific work areas.
  • Incumbent may sit for long periods of time at desk or computer terminal.
  • Incumbent may use calculators, keyboards, telephone, and other office equipment during normal workday.
  • Stooping, bending, twisting, and reaching may be required in completion of job duties.

After the introductory period, as a 100% commission-based role, there is no set salary. UNFI’s commission plans are uncapped and average earnings vary depending on territory and sales achieved, among other factors.
