Job Overview: 
The Manager Tax Accounting role is an integral part of the Income Tax Accounting team, overseeing preparation of the quarterly and annual tax provision under the guidance of the Sr. Director of Tax Accounting.  Key responsibilities of the role include supervision of the effective tax rate calculations for external SEC filings, reviewing income tax account reconciliations, reviewing and maintaining support for all deferred tax balances, assisting with the preparation of income tax sections of quarterly and annual SEC filings, and supporting effective tax rate and cash tax forecasting.  The role is also responsible for company-wide maintenance of tax fixed assets, tax intangibles, and the tax impacts of share-based compensation, supporting both the Tax Accounting and Tax Compliance teams in these areas.  The Tax Accounting Manager interfaces with a variety of internal finance partners and external service providers in the performance of these duties.

Job Responsibilities: 
Core Responsibilities

  • SEC Filing Preparation/Review
  • Supervise the preparation of SEC required quarterly and annual global tax provision, including the effective tax rate calculations and tax-related financial statement disclosures in compliance with all tax department SOX processes
  • Review all income tax account reconciliations
  • Review and maintain deferred tax accounts along with all supporting documentation, including return-to-provision reconciliations
  • Act as point of contact with the Tax Audit and Compliance teams to identify and document uncertain tax positions for KPMG review
  • Oversee Sox controls and compliance in collaboration with internal audit department
  • Tax Asset Accounting
  • Review tax fixed asset ledgers in collaboration with Fixed Asset Accounting team, and review tax depreciation calculations for tax provision, estimates and returns
  • Review intangible asset tax amortization schedules and reconciliations for tax provision, estimates and returns
  • Calculate the tax impacts of share-based compensation for tax provision, estimates and returns
  • Maintain documentation in support of various tax attributes, including tax loss carryforwards, valuation allowances and tax credits
  • Identify and research changes in tax laws and regulations and SEC reporting requirements, and their application to the Company
  • Assist in the development of staff
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


    Job Requirements: 
    Education/ Certifications: 
     

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting from an accredited college or university; 
  • Advanced degree (MST, JD/LLM) or CPA required

Experience: 

  • Minimum 5-7 years of tax provision experience in public accounting and/or SEC registrant corporate tax department
  • Experience in Federal and State Income Tax Return preparation a plus

Knowledge/Skills/ Abilities

  • Ability to prioritize and multitask assignments in a dynamic, deadline-driven environment
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to interact effectively and comfortably with all levels both internally and externally
  • Intermediate to advanced MS Excel skills, as well as a demonstrated facility for a variety of ERP and tax-specific IT solutions
  • Commitment to delivering high-quality results 
  • Ability to take initiative while seeking appropriate mentorship
  • Good judgment is required for this position as there may be times when direct supervision may not be immediately available.

Work Environment: 
Remote Role: 

  • This position is classified as remote where the associate will perform remote work from their primary residence. Remote associates are welcome to work from the office but are not required to do so. While remote associates are not required to work from an office on a regular basis, they may be required to come to the office or other UNFI locations for necessary business reasons or if directed to do so by their manager.


Travel (minor): 

  • This position may require the associate to travel to company offices, distribution centers, or other locations for specific meetings or other business reasons.

UNFI’s commission plans are uncapped and average earnings vary depending on territory and sales achieved, among other factors.
