What does it mean to be a part of our HR Operations team?  

While providing on-site support for our 50+ distribution centers, our HR Operations team ensures effective execution of human resources strategies in areas such as Talent Development, Workforce Planning, Talent Selection, Engagement, Recognition, Performance Management, Organizational Development, Training, Associate Relations, Compensation, Benefits, Wellness, Risk Safety, Labor Relations, Sustainability, and Philanthropy.  In addition, this team plays a pivotal role in our current transformation journey.  They are instrumental in helping to develop and retain the right talent, who are fully engaged with this strategy, as well as embodying a true “people first” mindset to help drive UNFI’s company culture of collaboration and engagement. 

PURPOSE:

Responsible for performing a variety of human resource support duties and administrative support to the HR department.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  •  Responsible for effectively recording, maintaining, and reporting human resource information in a confidential manner.

  • Oversee the human resource database. Ensure system records are accurately recorded and cross-checked.

  • Ensure that human resource files and records are maintained in accordance with legal requirements and Company policies and procedures.

  • Ensures that new hire paperwork is completed and up-to-date and in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.

  • Forward employment verification forms and process unemployment claims as required.

  • Complete miscellaneous research, reports, and memos as requested.

  • Responds to associate questions and problems courteously and promptly.

  • Maintains and projects the Company’s professional reputation.

  • Responsible for establishing and maintaining effective communication, coordination, and working relations with Company personnel and with management.

  • Assist in onboarding and offboarding associates, including provisioning, assisting with supplies as appropriate, and supporting department personnel as needed.

  • Coordinates and supports activities related to cyclical HR processes, including merit, talent management, performance reviews, and annual enrollment.

  • Keep management appropriately informed of area activities and of any significant problems.

  • Resources to associates regarding pay, benefits, and interpretation of human resource policies and programs.

  • Assists with planning and coordinating associate engagement activities.

  • Stays well-informed regarding state and federal law updates and related human resource developments.

  • Support HR projects, initiatives, and perform other duties as assigned.  

Education/Certification: 

  •  Associate’s Degree in Business preferred. 

 Experience: 

  • Minimum 2 years of professional business experience required

 Knowledge:

  • Working knowledge of Federal, state/provincial, and local employment laws.

  • Basic understanding of talent acquisition techniques, including recruitment, interviewing skills, and selection.

  • Basic understanding of compensation and benefit policies and programs, employee relations practices.

 Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced office environment.

  • May occasionally require flexibility in scheduling.

  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite- Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams.

  • Well organized and the ability to prioritize and multitask.

  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.

  • Basic understanding of human resource functions.

  • Ability to meet deadlines accurately and efficiently.

  • Accurate and attentive to details.

  • Ability to assist and support others.

  • Good judgment is required for this position as there may be times when direct supervision may not be immediately available.  

PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT/ DEMANDS:

  • Some travel may be required (up to 10%).

  • Most work is performed in a temperature-controlled office environment.

  • Incumbent may sit for long periods of time at the desk or computer terminal.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.

  • Incumbent may use calculators, keyboards, telephones, and other office equipment during the normal workday.

  • Stooping, bending, twisting, and reaching may be required in the completion of job duties.

Compensation:

UNFI anticipates paying the above-referenced pay rate (or within the above-referenced pay range) for this position. Actual Pay, where applicable, will depend on a number of factors, including, but not limited to, education, experience, training, and any requirements under applicable collective bargaining agreements. Sales Positions Only: For sales positions that are commission-based, the above range is an estimate of total potential commission-based compensation during an associate’s first year, but UNFI offers an introductory period minimum of $680 per week. After the introductory period, as a 100% commission-based role, there is no set salary. UNFI’s commission plans are uncapped and average earnings vary depending on territory and sales achieved, among other factors.
