Job Overview:

Supervises Warehouse shipping and receiving activities and associates to ensure functions are performed within Company and Distribution Center guidelines. Provides excellent customer service to customers and associates through facilitating accurate handling of inbound and outbound products.

Job Responsibilities:

Core Responsibilities 

  • Trains, supervises and provides direction to workforce of shipping/receiving associates. 
  • Monitors and enforces work rules and policies. 
  • Effectively communicates correct and compliant work processes to ensure associates development and improved worked performance, as needed.
  • Conducts safety observations (PIT, Lifting Techniques. etc.), audits and finished pallet breakdown audits.
  • Maintains daily production records, to include addressing performance gaps and indirect/gap time issues.
  • Understands and enforces workplace safety and food safety guidelines.
  • Conducts daily shift meetings to discuss safety, productivity and accuracy.
  • Effectively communicates with Transportation on the flow and receipt of backhauls.
  • Oversees scheduling of inbound load appointment process. Collaborates with 3PL on loads and challenges, where applicable.
  • Receives, sorts and distributes inbound, overnight carrier and mail service deliveries.
  • Walks warehouse daily to ensure that safety, food safety, security, sanitation and pest control codes, processes and policies are maintained. Checks load for quality, missing pallets, damages, merging accuracy.
  • Executes appropriate labor planning, taking into account the most economical and efficient use of equipment and personnel to accomplish assigned work.
  • Develops and maintains positive working relationships with all departments and support functions.
  • Accurately manages associate schedules, timecards, time-off, clock-in/out times and attendance actions in the time & attendance system, in line with UNFI policies.
  • Oversee the effective management of selection equipment, to include scanners and consoles.
  • Conducts effective performance management and discipline conversations with associates, ensuring associates' understanding of key expectations and policies related to gaps.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

Education/Certifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

Experience:

  • Possess strong general knowledge of all warehousing operations, with prior work experience to include lead person or supervisory duties.
  • Possess good supervisory skills and the ability to work with and through others to achieve desired results.
  • Possess effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Requires the analytical ability to handle administrative duties and mental alertness to ensure accurate, safe, and thorough completion of work activities. Possess the ability to concentrate and work through frequent interruptions. Utilizes effective time-management and follow-up skills.
  • Good judgement is required for this position as there may be times when direct supervision may not be immediately available.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Basic computer skills required with working knowledge of Microsoft applications.
  • Basic understanding of warehouse key performance indicators and the ability to read and understand system-generated reports.
  • Basis knowledge of Warehouse Management systems, preferred.
  • Lean Six Sigma experience, preferred.
  • Bi-lingual, Spanish/French/Creole preferred.

Physical Environment/Demands:

  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and to stand, walk frequently.
  • Distribution Center warehouse floors, docks and yards contain potential hazards related to machinery and Powered Industrial equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, mechanized/automation systems, movement of tractors and trailers, etc.
  • Regular walking and standing required. Walking warehouse aisles and observation of associates, in real-time.
  • Temperatures in the warehouse are ambient and may vary between -20 to approximately 80 degrees, depending on outdoor temperatures. Noise levels in all areas are within acceptable tolerance ranges for those specific work areas.
  • Stooping, bending, twisting and reaching may be required in completion of job duties.
  • Requires use of computers, calculators, keyboards, telephone, and other office equipment in the course of the workday.
  • Requires flexibility related to changing schedules, long hours, and the ability to work until the work is complete, based on business need.

Sales Positions Only: For sales positions that are commission-based, the above range is an estimate of total potential commission-based compensation during an associate’s first year, but UNFI offers an introductory period minimum of $680 per week. After the introductory period, as a 100% commission-based role, there is no set salary. UNFI’s commission plans are uncapped and average earnings vary depending on territory and sales achieved, among other factors.
