Purpose
The overall role and responsibility of this position is to provide store supervision and associate development, and to develop competency in all aspects of store management. This position works closely with the Store Director and department heads to plan for and achieve maximum sales, proper controls, and positive working conditions. Position requires basic operational knowledge and exposure to all departments. This position assumes responsibility for entire store operations and related decisions as assigned in absence of Store Director, with an emphasis on key sales floor and merchandising operations, including merchandising standards, display compliance, signing and pricing, receiving operations, powered equipment training, inventory and shrink controls, and vendor accountability. Strong supervisory, administrative, and associate relations skills are essential. Position requires ability to encourage individual and group effort toward defined goals and to provide training, development, and work direction in a supportive and consistent manner. The Store Sales and Operations Manager will work in partnership with the Store Engagement Manager to ensure all areas of responsibility and operations are maintained daily.
Job Responsibilities and Accountabilities
- Works through Store Director and department heads to establish budget, plan for and achieve budgetary numbers and evaluate store in this light on an ongoing basis
- Performs or assists in store grading at discretion of the Store Director
- Communicates consistently with department heads, concerning priorities and objectives
- Demonstrates understanding of store priorities and can anticipate changes
- Shows initiative in problem solving
- Can readily adjust to changing conditions
- Keeps Store Director informed to store conditions and decisions made
- Monitors store appearance and conditions to ensure high standards of cleanliness, efficiency, and productivity
- Checks that store security conditions are maintained
- Assesses store conditions in each department no less than once per hour
- Checks conditions of parking lot and grounds for safety and cleanliness; smoking in designated location
- Monitors pest control
- Oversees repairs/maintenance
- Regulatory inspection compliance
- Evaluates store merchandising
- Checks for product availability, proper rotation, quality, freshness of perishables and correct pricing
- Checks for "holes" in aisle stocking and maintenance of displays
- Checks for variety and mix of demand and profit items
- Monitors associate effectiveness and productivity and ensures efficient labor utilization
- Ensures store policies and procedures are enforced
- Reviews and approves weekly schedules before posted, monitors store conditions, and makes appropriate adjustments throughout the week as necessary
- Monitors department planning systems in relation to objectives accomplished
- Checks that safety procedures are followed and working conditions are safe
- Monitors customer relations and service levels to ensure a positive shopping environment
- Monitors Cub Hub dashboard and holds teammates accountable daily for completion of training courses
- Participates in store meetings
- Contributes to the decision-making process of the store
- Makes suggestions and recommendations for improvements
- Performs delegated Store Director responsibilities in the absence of Store Director or as assigned
- Participates in shelf management process
- Responsible for giving shelf management coordinator consumer feedback about sets
- Ensures planogram sets are current and updated as scheduled
- Monitors changes are completed on time, including sign packages
- Oversees all aspects of PIT training and retraining as required by OSHA via hands on and Cub Hub

- Access and knowledge to order and print signs, labels, and planograms
- Sign packages are in place and maintained
- Addresses need for replacing signage
- Down code and markdown process
- Department Standards
- Non-debatable store standards are in place every day
- Order writing to fill shelves
- Helps departments forecast changes in order needs based on weather, time of year, local events, etc.
- Understands load schedules – order send times and load arrival
- Weekly playbook is followed and set according to plan
- Displays are built following department standards
- Food safety and general safe practices are followed
- SFMM needs to know proper processes and guidelines, continually be checking for compliance, and coach employees when actions or behaviors are unsafe
- Departments are scheduled to business needs and have a shift lead or point person on each shift
- World class customer experience
- Monitor, coach, and train customer service standards in all positions
- Departments are clean, organized, and 5S program is being followed
- Handling product recalls
- Seasonally relevant merchandising in all departments and specific seasonal changeovers and planograms in place
- Monitors and tracks all Food Safety certifications
- Working knowledge and compliance of local and state regulations
- Spends time with Ecolab auditor to continually increase knowledge and improve standards
- Verifies all food safety posters are posted appropriately
- Production logs, order guides, temp check logs, VMS, red date labels monitored daily
- Personal Protective Equipment, gloves, handwashing, hair/beard nets monitored daily

Compensation:
UNFI anticipates paying the above-referenced pay rate (or within the above-referenced pay range) for this position. Actual Pay, where applicable, will depend on a number of factors, including, but not limited to, education, experience, training, and any requirements under applicable collective bargaining agreements. Sales Positions Only: For sales positions that are commission-based, the above range is an estimate of total potential commission-based compensation during an associate’s first year, but UNFI offers an introductory period minimum of $680 per week. After the introductory period, as a 100% commission-based role, there is no set salary. UNFI’s commission plans are uncapped and average earnings vary depending on territory and sales achieved, among other factors.
