POSITION TITLE: BAKERY FRYER

ACCOUNTABLE TO: Bakery Manager

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE

To produce quality fried bakery product

NATURE AND SCOPE

Emphasis in this position is on quality and quantity of batter, quantity of production and practice of safety procedures. Primary learning challenge is on developing quality product consistently. This position requires ongoing judgement/decision making, standing, working with hot equipment, and moderate lifting. Position functions and hours may vary according to business needs. Assignments and work direction provided by Bakery Manager or person in charge.

ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS

1. Prepare batter

· Mixes proper ingredients and amounts

· Ensures proper consistency of batter

· Moves batter to proper location to be fried

· Cuts raised donuts ensuring proper weight and appearance is achieved; correctly proofs under optimum conditions ensuring minimum grease absorption.

· Cleans work area as needed

Functional Requirements

Frequent: Physical: - Lifting/carrying 15 to 50 lbs., pushing/pulling 100 to 300 lbs., equipment operation (timer, mixer, scale, knife, reversible sheeter, donut cutter, scraper, proof box), walking, standing; Mental - Judgement/decision making, memorization, reading and math.

2. Fries batter

· Ensures fryers are consistently clean and filtered

· Ensures filter pump is cleaned daily and filters replaced as needed

· Fills hopper with batter and drops proper amount into hot grease

· Flips fried product in hot grease

· Removes screens of fried product and glazes appropriately

· Cleans work area as needed

Functional Requirements

Frequent: Physical – Lifting/carrying 15 to 25 lbs., reaching, bending, repetitive motions (flipping motion), equipment operation (donut sticks, hopper, fryer, screens), standing, walking on uneven ground; Mental – judgement/decision making; Environmental – Working with 375 degree hot grease, temperatures of 100 degrees, ventilation, exposure to fatty acids and smoke, slippery floor

Occasional: Physical – Lifting/carrying 50 lbs.

3. Finishes fried product

· Mixes icing, frosting, and adds flavoring when appropriate

· Sugars, glazes, frosts, dips and fills fried product

· Places finished product on rack to be stocked or wrapped

· Cleans work area as needed.

Functional Requirements

Frequent: Physical: - Lifting/carrying 15 to 40 lbs., repetitive motion (frosting), equipment operation (icing warmer, Bismark pump, luggers, spatula, knives), reaching, standing, walking on uneven ground; Mental – judgement/decision making, memorization

Occasional: Mental – Math

4. Follows all store and department policies and procedures

Functional Requirements

Frequent: Mental – Judgement/decision making, memorization.

ADDITIONAL POSITION FUNCTIONS

5. Rotates and stocks finished fried products

· Cleans and prepares bins or cases for fresh and rotated product

· Ensures proper product availability for maximum product sales

Physical – Lifting/carrying 15 to 25 lbs.; pushing/pulling 100 to 150 lbs., reaching, bending, crawling; Mental – Judgement/decision making, reading, writing, math

6. Assists customers with questions or requests

Functional Requirements

Physical – Lifting/carrying 1 to 5 lbs., reading, walking, standing; Mental – Social skills/verbal interaction, memorization, writing, math.

7. Assists in wrapping or bagging product

Functional requirements

Physical – Equipment operation (shrink wrapper, label machine, bread slicer, knives), reaching, bending, repetitive motions (twisting and clipping, labeling, shrink wrapping); Mental – Memorization, math, reading

Note: Within each essential functional requirement, “Frequent” represents approximately 15% of the work shift or at least ten repetitions per work shift. “Occasional” represents approximately less than 15% of the work shift or fewer than 10 repetitions per work shift.

UNFI anticipates paying the above-referenced pay rate (or within the above-referenced pay range) for this position. Actual Pay, where applicable, will depend on a number of factors, including, but not limited to, education, experience, training, and any requirements under applicable collective bargaining agreements. Sales Positions Only: For sales positions that are commission-based, the above range is an estimate of total potential commission-based compensation during an associate’s first year, but UNFI offers an introductory period minimum of $680 per week. After the introductory period, as a 100% commission-based role, there is no set salary. UNFI’s commission plans are uncapped and average earnings vary depending on territory and sales achieved, among other factors.
