Purpose:

Monitor, enforce and support execution of the merchandising plan for the assigned departments in assigned stores.  Assists in Department Manager and team training.  Partners with the Store Director to facilitate and train consistent execution of company standards. 

Job Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Travels to assigned stores regularly to work with the Department Manager and staff to monitor merchandising plans and standards.  Provide guidance to achieve sales goals, gross margin and labor targets.
  • Directs and counsels department managers and Store Directors in all aspects of product merchandising, department operations and customer experience.
  • Provides consistent feedback on overall department presentation, cleanliness and compliance to company policies, procedures and standards.
  • Monitors department staffing levels and provides guidance to Store Director and District Manager on needs and requirements.
  • Monitors team training and provides advice and resources as required to fill gaps.
  • Provides clear and concise communication to store teammates and leadership regarding department requirements.  Responds to team questions and concerns timely.
  • Guides the implementation of new merchandising programs and strategies ensuring store teams have all the required information to execute.
  • Monitor competitor activities and communicates back to Merchandising team.
  • Provides fact based merchandising input back to Merchandising Team.
  • Assists in opening new and remodeled stores.
  • Monitors and provides guidance on departmental sales, labor and gross profit reporting on assigned locations.
  • Good judgment is required for this position as there may be times when direct supervision may not be immediately available.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in business preferred. Previous Department Manager and/or Store Director experience preferred.
  • Possess good written and verbal communication skills and deal effectively with a wide variety of people. 
  • Possess a marketing orientation, good analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Possess math skills to complete straightforward analysis
  • Possess strong leadership skills with the ability to lead and motivate others.
  • Position may require some travel to stores (up to 80% including regular weekend travel)
  • Most work is performed in a temperature-controlled office or store environment.
  • Incumbent will need to stand for long periods of time
  • Incumbent will use calculators, keyboards, telephone, and other office equipment in the course of normal workday
  • Stooping, bending, twisting, and reaching are required in completion of job duties.

Sales Positions Only: For sales positions that are commission-based, the above range is an estimate of total potential commission-based compensation during an associate’s first year, but UNFI offers an introductory period minimum of $680 per week. After the introductory period, as a 100% commission-based role, there is no set salary. UNFI’s commission plans are uncapped and average earnings vary depending on territory and sales achieved, among other factors.
