Job Overview:
Inspects all incoming shipments of assigned product groups against USDA Good Delivery Guidelines. Inspects all on-hand procedure to ensure quality meets the highest standard. Verifies all dated products to ensure the shipping date meets customer expectations on dated products.
What does it mean to be a part of the Quality Assurance team?
This team plays a pivotal role in inspecting all incoming shipments within various food and products throughout the warehouse as well as being stored within the warehouse. This role will rate food and products according to company and USDA guidelines, accepting or rejecting product based on condition, damages, and temperature. You will maintain necessary records, inform buyers on product quality, and ensure you are working with management to reduce shrink. You will be trained and will train personnel on proper food handling, storage, rotation, and selection of product.
Job Responsibilities:
- Inspects all incoming shipments of assigned product groups, as well as product stored in the warehouse. May rate products according to Company and USDA specifications.
- Maintains necessary inspections and rejection records.
- Accepts or rejects product based on condition, short weight, transit damage, grade, temperature, and other reasons.
- May reject product without further consolation if a product doesn't meet the Company's requirements/standards.
- Fruit Ripening.
- Learn and comply with SQF and food safety policies.
- Other departmental needs such as Data entry, return processing, cleaning, sorting, training, and other tasks assigned by management.
Job Requirements:
- Good judgment is required for this position as there may be times when direct supervision may not be immediately available.
Knowledge:
- Able to learn the standards for USDA Good Delivery guidelines for Produce.
Work Environment:
Onsite Role:
This position requires the associate to perform all duties at one of our UNFI locations, such as a distribution center or office.
Physical Environment
- Some work is performed in a temperature-controlled office environment.
- Incumbent may sit for long periods of time at desk or computer terminal.
- Incumbent may use calculators, keyboards, telephone, and other office equipment in the course of normal workday.
- Stooping, bending, twisting, and reaching may be required in completion of job duties.

Actual Pay, where applicable, will depend on a number of factors, including, but not limited to, education, experience, training, and any requirements under applicable collective bargaining agreements. Sales Positions Only: For sales positions that are commission-based, the above range is an estimate of total potential commission-based compensation during an associate’s first year, but UNFI offers an introductory period minimum of $680 per week. After the introductory period, as a 100% commission-based role, there is no set salary. UNFI’s commission plans are uncapped and average earnings vary depending on territory and sales achieved, among other factors.
