Job Overview:  

The Loader position is responsible for loading products into truck trailers by operating electric pallet jacks. Other responsibilities will include hand stacking products, labeling pallets, wrapping pallets and securing the load within the trailer.

What does it mean to be part of the Loading Team? 

In this role, you will work directly with the inventory department, Supervisors and leads to verify quantities of product loaded onto trucks at the distribution centers. These roles have a strong understanding of products that we carry, all loading procedures and back stock. This team ensures that products are in the proper staging locations so we can efficiently load trucks with products accurately while maintaining a clean and safe work area.   

Job Responsibilities:  

  • Turns on single and dual temp trailers refrigerator units at the proper times
  • Loads trucks in sequence based on delivery schedule and routing using at least 5 load bars per route to ensure a secure delivery
  • Distributes finished load sheets to the inside of the trailer, to the dispatcher, and to the driver
  • Removes debris and empty pallets from the dock upon completion of loading
  • Reports any discrepancies in pallet counts, missing repack or unsound pallets to the lead, supervisor or manager
  • Perform duties in accordance with Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) and Safe Quality Food (SQF) policies and procedures, as appropriate for location
  • Selects product on heavy nights or if understaffed

·         Reports any violation of company policy to supervisor or lead

Job Requirements:    

Experience:  

  • Six months Warehouse/Operations loading required
  • Power Industrial Equipment experience preferred

Knowledge: 

  • Understand all unload procedures and the proper staging of all return products
  • Understanding of batching sheets, load sheets, pallet counts, cubing and depart times.
  • Ability to make decisions about the proper blending of repack and grocery stops together

 Skills/ Abilities: 

  • Good judgment is required for this position as there may be times when direct supervision may not be immediately available. (Legal requirement to add in this language) 
  • Understanding of procedures in other areas of the warehouse for a more global understanding of all processes
  • Must be able to safely lift up to 75 pounds continuously as well as pick with a high degree of accuracy and efficiency
  • Must be able to work in a range of temperatures from -10 to 90+
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check and a drug screen

  • This position requires the associate to perform all duties at one of our UNFI locations, such as a distribution center or office.  

Physical Environment/Demands:

Warehouse Roles: 

·         Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and to stand, walk, bend, stoop, twist, and turn frequently.    

·         Exposed to temperatures ranging from -20 degrees below zero to 35 degrees Fahrenheit in Perishable Operation and 37 degrees to 90 degrees Fahrenheit in Grocery Operation.  

·         Ability to do repetitious arm, wrist, and hand movements required for maintenance and service procedures.    

·         Must be able to work with hands and arms overhead, and to work in or under the equipment.    

·         Requires manual dexterity, overall coordination, and good balance to work both at ground level and in high places to perform job duties.  Ability to operate work-related equipment.  

·         Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

After the introductory period, as a 100% commission-based role, there is no set salary. UNFI’s commission plans are uncapped and average earnings vary depending on territory and sales achieved, among other factors.
