Purpose:
The Director, Corporate Accounting is a member of Controllership and is an integral leader within the broader accounting organization, holding primary oversight over corporate accounting functions associated with period-end closing, financial consolidation and risk, property and lease accounting, stock-based compensation and inventory accounting, payroll tax and benefits accounting, as well as involvement in various levels of detailed and consolidated financial review across the P&L and balance sheet. This role is responsible for the ultimate consolidation activities of an approximately $30 billion revenue and $7 billion total asset company across multiple systems. Additionally, the Director, Corporate Accounting is a key role within the accounting leadership team and will maintain accountability for communication of key complex accounting impacts and outcomes, as well as providing insights and strategies in managing a complex and growing business. As part of the collective responsibility, the role is a lead facilitator of the balance sheet and cash flow preparation and reviews to be conducted with the finance leadership team. The role will support approximately 12+ staff, including the direct reports, and approximately 10+ third-party support resources.
Job Responsibilities:
Core Responsibilities
Leads the consolidated closing activities on a period basis and is responsible for the consolidated results of the entity as well as communication of results with key leadership roles across the collective finance function. Serves as a key business partner to FP&A, Operations Finance, and Internal and External Audit teams.
Coordinates with key stakeholders within the commercial and finance areas of the business on transactional matters and business changes that could result in changes in accounting treatment or new accounting impacts associated with changing business trends.
Partners on the development of conclusions and recommendations associated with complex technical accounting transactions and maintains oversight of complex accounting areas such as stock-based compensation, health & welfare accounting, derivatives and pension accounting, among others.
Oversight and review of the Company’s consolidated balance sheet and statement of cash flows as well as the compilation and summary of the analytics associated with these statements for both internal review and external audit related deliverables.
Participates in the compilation and development of key deliverables associated with the executive management team as well as the Board of Directors, specifically in developing the core content for purposes of the Audit Committee.
Maintains oversight and accountability of the Company’s asset positions including property and equipment as well as lease accounting under ASC 842.
Responsibility for most of the Company’s prepaid expenses and accrual accounts and managing the review and impact to the financial statements on a period basis.
Accountable for all debt and equity transactional movements as well as interest expense and associated hedging instruments.
Participates and engages on free cash flow and other cash-related metrics to facilitate management’s goals and objectives associated with free cash flow targets.

Job Requirements:
Education/Certifications:
BS degree in Accounting.
Master’s degree in Accounting preferred.
CPA required.
Experience:
10+ yrs of progressive accounting-related experience.
Wholesale distribution or retail experience preferred.
Public accounting experience preferred.
Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities:
Wholesale or retail industry knowledge is preferred.
Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to partner with a multitude of key stakeholders across all functions of the business.
Clear and effective communicator with an ability to simplify messaging of complex transactions and topics.
Ability to multi-task and balance a fast-paced, evolving business that is change-oriented and focused on growth initiatives.

Good judgment is required for this position as there may be times when direct supervision may not be immediately available.

Remote Role:
This position is classified as remote where the associate will perform remote work from their primary residence. Remote associates are welcome to work from the office but are not required to do so. While remote associates are not required to work from an office on a regular basis, they may be required to come to the office or other UNFI locations for necessary business reasons or if directed to do so by their manager.

Sales Positions Only: For sales positions that are commission-based, the above range is an estimate of total potential commission-based compensation during an associate’s first year, but UNFI offers an introductory period minimum of $680 per week. After the introductory period, as a 100% commission-based role, there is no set salary. UNFI’s commission plans are uncapped and average earnings vary depending on territory and sales achieved, among other factors.
