UNFI is currently looking for a Full-Time Fleet Diesel Maintenance Mechanic. In this role, you will assist in maintaining the tractors and trailers.  A qualified candidate must have the ability to work on their own, maintain high levels of integrity.  The Transportation Fleet Mechanic will report to the division transportation manager.

Hours:

  • Monday-Friday, 7:00am-4:00pm.

  • Starting wage $29.12/hr with increase to $30.74 after 3 months (plus yearly increases)

Job Responsibilities and Accountabilities:   

  • Perform and/or manage all tractor and trailer PM’s.
  • Work with UNFI drivers on equipment issues and concerns.
  • Identifies and resolves miscellaneous equipment issues.
  • Reviews and monitors parts and equipment inventories.
  • Maintains PM records on all transportation fleet equipment.
  • Accountable for the safety and cleanliness of the transportation shop and fleet.

Job Requirements:  

  • Must be comfortable walking and standing throughout the day.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. occasionally.
  • Must be available to work all hours occasionally.
  • Comfortable climbing ladders, crawling under equipment and stepping up onto platforms.

Qualifications:  

  • CDL preferred or desire to obtain a CDL – But not required
  • Welding and metal fabrication experience a plus.
  • Background as a mechanic or desire to learn.
  • Basic knowledge of diesel engines, trailer mechanics and Thermo Kings

UNFI anticipates paying the above-referenced pay rate (or within the above-referenced pay range) for this position. Actual Pay, where applicable, will depend on a number of factors, including, but not limited to, education, experience, training, and any requirements under applicable collective bargaining agreements. Sales Positions Only: For sales positions that are commission-based, the above range is an estimate of total potential commission-based compensation during an associate’s first year, but UNFI offers an introductory period minimum of $680 per week. After the introductory period, as a 100% commission-based role, there is no set salary. UNFI’s commission plans are uncapped and average earnings vary depending on territory and sales achieved, among other factors.
